Over the past eight weeks, Jackie’s client Cathy Martin has been trying out Endermologie at The Clinic, and this month, she takes over the column to share her experience – and the results.
Endermologie is one of those treatments I’d read about French women having fortnightly, but I never quite got round to finding out more or doing anything about it, until I read about Jackie’s clinic and decided to give it a go. And although Jackie has the only Endermologie machine in Northern Ireland, the treatment is used widely by masseurs, physiotherapists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons across the world for multiple benefits – because it can also improve circulation, relieve minor muscular aches, improve skin tone and skin radiance as well as the cellulite benefits.
To be honest, I don’t have much cellulite, but I certainly wanted to perk up my body’s skin tone which has been more than a bit lacklustre since I passed 40. The results have been great – I enjoyed greater energy and felt better overall, as well as seeing a reduction in lumps and bumps around my bottom and hips.
So what exactly is it?
Endermologie is the process of reducing cellulite by mechanical means, using massages, suction, rolling and manipulation of the tissues. It is non-surgical and pain free (although some people find it uncomfortable at first) and it is the first cellulite treatment to be approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It works by using independent motorised rollers that gently massage the skin tissue to get rid of fat deposits, revitalise blood and lymphatic circulation and reactivate lipolysis. As well as helping to banish fat deposits, the deep lipomassage also stimulates collagen and elastin production to re-firm sagging skin and improve skin definition.
A minimum of 6-10 cellulite treatments are usually recommended and are often the amount required to notice a real difference. The results from these sessions will usually last a few months, and a 30 minute treatment every month or so will help to maintain the new shape. Some people might like more – or less – depending on their own needs. During my treatments, I wore a specialised body stocking and the fabulous therapist used a hand-held massaging device on the affected area. (I got a full body treatment each time). Each treatment lasted approximately 35-45 minutes and, like most patients, I choose to have 2 sessions per week.
I’m usually quite healthy with my diet, but I do love a good blow out at the pizzeria or Chinese and Indian restaurants – and I would never say no to chocolate or a weekend glass of red wine, however, it’s important to note that good diet and plenty of exercise are recommended before, during and after your Endermologie as both will complement the treatment and prevent cellulite getting worse.
The cost
The treatment is very affordable and costs no more than a regular beauty salon massage, so it’s definitely not prohibitive. Each treatment is £50 and in fact if you book 6 sessions your get 1 free or if you book 12 sessions you will receive 2 free treatments.
In summary, I liked the treatment so much I’ve booked in now for regular top up treatments and I even look forward to them! Some people read or just close their eyes and relax but I enjoy getting through emails, texts and all sorts while the treatment is being carried out. So there’s another benefit – it allows you to multitask!
